Daniel Shaver, Mesa, Arizona, January 2016. Officer Philip Brailsford was tried for second degree murder and acquitted; Mesa later rehired him so he could retire on a disability pension.
In January 2016, police got a call about a man pointing a rifle out of a fifth floor window at a La Quinta Inn in Mesa, Arizona. Six officers lined up in the hallway; Daniel Shaver, 26, came out with his hands up, and a sergeant spent about five minutes giving him commands, ending with an order to crawl. One officer, Philip Brailsford, fired, and was charged with second degree murder; this episode follows the call, the commands, the charge and the trial, using court video. This is the whole case, and this video does not show the shooting.
