Every black has its white. Every day has its night. Every cold has its hot. Every yin has its yang. You see where I'm going with this. And then you have the Panama Canal and the Amador Causeway. When the Panal Canal was created, a whole lot of land was removed from the earth to make space for the water. But what happened to all of this removed land? Enter the Amador Causeway. Here we have a unique road that connects mainland Panama to four small outlying islands in the Pacific Ocean. The rocks removed from the construction of the Panama Canal, one of the world's most iconic creations, found new life in the building of this causeway. It's almost as if a strip of land got picked up by a giant hand, twisted around and dropped back down in a different direction. Today we will make a round-trip walk starting from the Biomuseum on the mainland to the end of Perico Island, and heading back. Expect to see the Pacific Ocean, lots of palm trees, people enjoying themselves on a Sunday, commercial freighters on their way to the Panama Canal, dogs, party buses, trams, skateboards, bicycles, in-line skates, a public park, professional photography... even a couple guys chopping coconuts off a tree.
personal note
The job that pays my bills is as a tour guide in Washington, DC. You wouldn't expect it, but there were a couple links here on the Amador Causeway to the ground I cover there. We begin and (almost) end this video at the Biomuseum, which was designed by Frank Gehry, who also designed the relatively new Eisenhower Memorial in DC. And then, the Smithsonian Institution, which operates 19 museums in the DC metro area, runs the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, the only major branch of the Smithsonian outside of the United States. It also has a nature center open to the general public. Just as all DC area residents are intimately familiar with the name 'Smithsonian', so are residents of Panama City because of this.

Behold the outer walls which gleam like copper. See the inner wall, which none can rival. Touch the threshold stone, it is from ancient days. Go up, and walk on the wall of Uruk. Inspect the cornerstone, and examine its brickwork. Is it not built of baked brick?
