Early Career Investigator Monthly Webinar Series - February 2025 This webinar series is sponsored by AstraZeneca, an ISBM corporate partner. ISBM webinar given by Dr. Hannah Fricke from the Brigham and Women's Hospital Harvard Medical School. Lactation is an ancient reproductive strategy that is a hallmark characteristic of all mammals. It is a tightly regulated process that regulates bone remodeling to supply calcium for off-spring growth. In humans, about 260 mg/L of calcium is transferred to the neonate in the first six months, causing a 6–10% maternal bone loss, which recovers within a year post-weaning. In this webinar, Dr. Fricke will discuss the mechanisms of skeletal remodeling during lactation, including how PTHrP regulates bone turnover and osteocytic osteolysis to mod-late calcium metabolism for milk production. The un-coupling mechanism of bone turnover during lactation has yet to be elucidated but can offer valuable in-sight into calcium metabolism in normal and pathological conditions Disclaimer: Educational Use Only This audio/video recording is intended solely for educational and instructional purposes.
