Early Career Investigator Monthly Webinar Series - September 2026 Presenter: Dr. Matthias Walle Posdoctoral Research Fellow University of Calgary, Canada How does bone sense and respond to its mechanical environment in vivo? Timelapsed high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) offers a powerful way to move beyond static measures of bone structure by mapping where bone formation and resorption occur over time. When combined with finite element analysis, these remodeling patterns can be related to the local mechanical environment to investigate bone mechanoregulation directly. This webinar will introduce the underlying concepts and showcase applications in diabetes and spaceflight, before moving into a hands-on 3D Slicer demonstration of image registration, remodeling analysis, finite element modeling, and visualization of bone adaptation.
