Want to learn the kettlebell snatch? This video breaks it down into a quick 10-step progression, starting with hand insertion and hook grip and gradually building toward the full kettlebell snatch.
The idea is to learn the pieces first rather than jumping straight into the full movement.

THE 10-STEP KETTLEBELL SNATCH PROGRESSION
1. Ground hand insertion drill
2. Add the hook grip
3. Standing hand insertion into racking
4. Drop
5. Low pendulum swing
6. Pendulum swing
7. High pendulum swing
8. Assisted half snatch
9. Half snatch
10. Full snatch
A major part of learning the snatch is understanding how to keep the kettlebell close to the body.
As the swing gets higher, the objective is to send the kettlebell UP rather than casting it OUT.
Use full-body extension to generate the power, allow the kettlebell to float, open the hand, insert, and complete the snatch overhead.
The same principle applies on the way down.
Don't simply follow the kettlebell forward and down. Move your body away while keeping the kettlebell close. Following the bell too far can put unnecessary demand on the lower back.
The progression also introduces the assisted half snatch and half snatch before moving to the complete snatch. Assistance gives you time to learn the path of the kettlebell, the hand insertion, grip changes, and timing before adding more speed.
Keeping the kettlebell close also makes the hand insertion easier and helps reduce the chance of the bell banging into the forearm.
There are many more details involved in efficient kettlebell snatching, but these 10 steps give you a progression from the very first hand-insertion drill through to the full snatch.
