A year later he sets out again and wins over the kings of six states. Children learn the idiom 悬梁刺股 (xuán liáng cì gǔ: to study extremely hard), the characters 悬 (xuán, to hang) and 股 (gǔ, thigh), and read two short lines from the ancient sources. The story says it plainly: never copy their methods; when you are sleepy, go to bed. What is worth copying is the way they kept going.
