Inside a Texas Ranger’s Private Bison Herd: Caprock Canyon Bison Company

What does a Texas Ranger do when he's not wearing the badge? For this behind-the-scenes chapter of NATIVE | The Prodigies of an Icon, the Meet My Neighbor Productions team visits Caprock Canyon Bison Co. for a rare look at the private bison herd of Texas Ranger Donald Beard. Donald has been part of our journey with NATIVE, sharing his experience and his connection to an animal deeply intertwined with the history of Texas and the American West. This time, we get out of the interview chair and onto the land. We follow Donald among his own bison, getting a more personal look at the work, responsibility, and passion behind maintaining a private herd in the Texas Panhandle. It's another side of a man whose career has been spent serving Texas — and another reminder of just how many different people have become part of the modern American bison story. Throughout the production of NATIVE, we've followed bison across national parks, tribal lands, conservation herds and working ranches. But some of our favorite moments happen when the cameras take us beyond someone's professional life and into the personal connection they have with these animals. Come behind the scenes with us in Texas as we spend time with Texas Ranger Donald Beard and his bison herd at Caprock Canyon Bison Co.
