🦚 Janmashtami Special Peacock Feather Sandesh | मोर पंख संदेश A beautiful and festive Krishna-inspired sweet, this Peacock Feather Sandesh is made with fresh paneer and decorated to look like Krishna ji’s mor pankh. It is soft, mildly sweet, colourful, and perfect for Janmashtami bhog. Ingredients For the Sandesh Base Paneer / Chhena (पनीर / छैना) – 2 cups Powdered sugar (पिसी चीनी) – ½ cup or as per taste Cardamom powder (इलायची पाउडर) – ¼ tsp Rose water or kewra water (रोज़ वॉटर / केवड़ा वॉटर) – ½ tsp, optional Milk powder (मिल्क पाउडर) – 2 tbsp, optional for slightly firmer texture For Colour & Decoration Green food colour or spinach extract (हरा फूड कलर / पालक का अर्क) – a few drops Blue food colour or butterfly pea extract (नीला फूड कलर / बटरफ्लाई पी एक्सट्रैक्ट) – a few drops Yellow food colour or saffron milk (पीला फूड कलर / केसर दूध) – a few drops Pistachio powder (पिस्ता पाउडर) – 1–2 tbsp Saffron strands (केसर) – a few Chopped pistachios / almonds (कटे पिस्ता / बादाम) – for garnish Clove or black raisin bits (लौंग / किशमिश के छोटे टुकड़े) – tiny pieces for feather detailing, optional Method 1. Prepare the paneer If using homemade paneer/chhena, make sure it is fresh and well-drained but still moist. Crumble it well. 2. Knead the mixture Add paneer, powdered sugar, cardamom powder, and rose water/kewra water to a plate or bowl. Knead gently with your palm until smooth and soft. If needed, mix in 2 tbsp milk powder for binding. 3. Lightly cook Transfer the mixture to a non-stick pan and cook on low flame for 2–3 minutes only, stirring continuously. Do not overcook, or the sandesh will turn dry. 4. Remove to a plate and let it cool slightly. 5. Divide for colours Divide the mixture into 3–4 portions: one larger white/plain portion one green portion one blue portion one yellow portion 6. Mix each coloured portion gently until evenly tinted. 7. Shape the peacock feather Take a portion of the plain or lightly green sandesh and shape it into a long teardrop/leaf shape, just like a peacock feather. 8. Flatten it slightly with your fingers. 9. Use the green mixture to outline or cover the outer feather shape. 10. In the centre upper part, place a small oval of blue mixture. 11. Inside or around the blue oval, add a little yellow mixture to create the classic peacock-feather eye pattern. 12. Add tiny touches of white/plain mixture or pistachio powder for detailing. 13. Decorate further with saffron strands, chopped pistachios, or tiny raisin bits if desired. 14. Chill for 15–20 minutes to set slightly before serving.
