Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 head green cabbage (about 4–5 cups), chopped into bite-sized pieces
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 can (14.5 oz) petite diced tomatoes (with juices)
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp sugar
2 cups COOKED long-grain white rice (leftover or microwave pouch rice)
1/2 cup beef broth
Instructions:
1. Brown Beef & Onions: Set your electric skillet (or Dutch oven) to medium-high heat (350°F). Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon until fully browned and the onions are soft. Add the minced garlic during the last minute. Drain off excess grease thoroughly.
2. Add Cabbage & Sauce: Reduce heat to medium (250°F). Add the chopped cabbage directly on top of the beef. In a small bowl, whisk together the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the cabbage and beef.
3. Cover & Simmer: Put the lid on the skillet. Once bubbling steadily, reduce the temperature to a gentle simmer (225°F–250°F or low on a stovetop). Cook covered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring once halfway through, until the cabbage is completely tender.
4. Stir in Rice & Finish: Remove the lid and stir in the 2 cups of pre-cooked white rice. Cook uncovered for another 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is heated through and has absorbed the rich tomato sauce. Turn off the heat and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
