Join us for our second instalment in our brand new LinkedIn Live series centred on climate finance and cities. Cities are dynamic and vibrant spaces, bringing together a diverse mix of people, economic activity, and built environments. They offer both inspiration and challenges because, while they act as centres of opportunity, innovation, and diversity, they are also sites of inequality and sources of high emissions. Resultantly, their role in the fight against climate change is becoming increasingly vital, as cities both significantly contribute to it and are deeply affected by its impacts. To ensure cities remain places of possibility, we must make them more sustainable. This requires unlocking appropriate finance and investing it in initiatives that make our cities greener.
In this series, we’re diving into the world of climate finance and cities with a wide range of professionals in the industry. In our first instalment, Grant, Founder of E Co. had a discussion with two E Co. urban experts, Isaacnezer Njuguna and Tamara Trumbić, who both have vast but contrasting experience on urban sustainability projects. You can find the discussion here - / theater
In this second instalment, Grant will be sitting down with Elizabeth Mungai, from C40 cities, who is currently based in Nairobi. They’ll be drawing on her nearly decade of experience working with cities in Africa, ranging from roles within local government and non-profit organisations to consulting for global professional institutions on urban projects. They’ll discuss what types of climate finance are best suited to cities, exploring which urban sectors are likely to attract the different types of climate finance available.
They’ll also discuss how cities in Africa can better position themselves to secure such funding. We’ll have a chance to hear about some of the exciting projects that she has worked on and the urgent challenges cities face in accessing climate finance.
