What speaks louder in your life: God’s power or your inadequacies?
In Exodus 4:1–17, Moses continues resisting God’s call to lead Israel out of Egypt. God has already revealed His purpose, explained His plan, and promised His presence. Yet Moses remains focused on his past failures and personal weaknesses. After every promise from God, Moses responds with another reason he cannot obey.
This message shows that a right understanding of God should produce a life of dependence on Him. God does not deny Moses’ limitations or attempt to build his self-confidence. Instead, He reminds Moses that every human weakness is met by God’s sufficiency. Moses says, “I can’t,” but God answers, “I can.”
God was not waiting for Moses to feel ready. He was calling Moses to become dependent and obedient. Moses’ inadequacies did not disqualify him. They created an opportunity for God’s strength to be displayed through him.
By Exodus 33, Moses has changed. The man who once asked God to send someone else now says that he will not go anywhere without God’s presence. His confidence is no longer in himself. He has learned that God’s presence is what makes him capable of fulfilling God’s assignment.
Main Passage: Exodus 4:1–17
Big Idea: Seeing God rightly should move us from focusing on our inadequacies to living in complete dependence on His presence.
