The entire length of NYC Summer Streets 2026 — 13.2 miles from Dyckman
Street in Inwood all the way down to the Brooklyn Bridge, on car-free
Manhattan streets. Put it on the treadmill or the indoor bike and run the
length of the island with me.
Summer Streets is the one morning a year the city hands the pavement back
to people. From 7am the route closes to traffic, and you can run, walk, or
ride from the top of Manhattan to the bottom without waiting at a single
light. This is the whole thing, end to end, in one continuous take.
It starts at Dyckman Street and climbs onto Broadway through Washington
Heights, past the high ground around 181st Street and down through Sugar
Hill. Through Harlem the crowd thickens — music on the corners, kids on
scooters, rest stops handing out water. The route skirts the top of
Central Park and picks up the long straight run down the east side, where
the avenue opens up and you can see thirty blocks ahead with nothing on it.
Below Midtown it narrows into Lafayette and threads through NoHo and SoHo,
and the last mile empties out at City Hall with the Brooklyn Bridge
straight ahead. Two and a half hours of Manhattan with the cars turned off.
