Buddy's Week 1 Board & Train Recap | Obedience, Place & Potty Training Tips | Best Paw Forward

Buddy is officially wrapping up his first week of Board & Train at Best Paw Forward Dog Training in Perkasie, PA! 🐾 Buddy is here for our four-week Board & Train program, where we're focusing on polite greetings, potty training, and recall. During his first week, we've been working on building a strong foundation through attention on handler, basic obedience, and place training! In today's video, you'll see Buddy practicing: 🐾 Attention on Handler: Building focus and engagement so Buddy learns to pay attention and respond to his handler. 🐾 Basic Obedience: Strengthening foundational commands like sit and down to improve communication and listening skills. 🐾 Place Training: Teaching Buddy to go to a designated spot and settle, an important skill for managing excitement and encouraging calm behavior. 🐾 Impulse Control: Building patience and helping Buddy learn to make better choices. 🐾 Potty Training Discussion: We also talk a little about Buddy's potty training and the importance of establishing consistent routines and expectations. Why are foundational obedience skills so important? Before we can expect a dog to reliably come when called, greet guests politely, or listen around distractions, we need to establish a solid foundation. Teaching attention, basic commands, and place gives us the tools to communicate clearly and redirect unwanted behaviors. Since Buddy struggles with jumping and mouthing during greetings, place training will be especially helpful as we continue teaching him more appropriate ways to interact with people. Let's talk about potty training! Potty training is another major focus of Buddy's program. One of the challenges we're working through is that Buddy is accustomed to going to the bathroom on turf at home rather than grass. During his stay, we're focusing on establishing a consistent potty routine, giving him regular opportunities to go outside, and reinforcing successful potty habits. Consistency is key when potty training! Having a predictable schedule, supervising closely, rewarding successful outdoor potty trips, and limiting unnecessary freedom can help dogs develop better habits. Buddy has completed his first week, and we're excited to continue building on these skills over the next three weeks!
