What Really Happened Inside Ohio’s Most Haunted Castle?

Franklin Castle has been called one of Ohio’s most haunted homes for decades but the real story behind the house may be even stranger than the legends. Built in the early 1880s for Hannes Tiedemann and his family, the mansion on Franklin Boulevard became surrounded by stories of tragedy, hidden rooms, unexplained footsteps, voices, apparitions, and a mysterious crying girl said to have been seen or heard inside the house. Over time, those stories grew darker, and Franklin Castle developed a reputation as one of the most disturbing paranormal locations in Cleveland. But not every story connected to the house holds up under investigation. Some of the most famous murder legends appear to have been added years later, long after the Tiedemann family had left the property. Historians have challenged several of the names and crimes commonly attached to the castle. And then, in 1975, partial human remains were reportedly discovered inside a concealed space in the house. So where did the bones come from? Why did so many different people report unusual experiences inside the castle? And how much of Franklin Castle’s reputation comes from real history, local folklore, and unexplained events that still do not have a clear answer? In this episode, We investigate the documented history of Franklin Castle, the tragedies connected to the Tiedemann family, the Romano family’s paranormal claims, the stories of the woman in black, hidden spaces, the discovery of human remains, the 1999 arson fire, and the strange reputation the mansion still carries today. Some of the legends may have been exaggerated. Some may have been invented. But even after the false stories are removed, Franklin Castle is left with enough unanswered questions to keep people coming back.
