Do Not Forsake Me

Do Not Forsake Me | A Prayer for God's Presence | Psalm 38:21–22 | Christian Scripture Song Have you ever felt overwhelmed by your circumstances, burdened by your failures, or afraid that God might seem far away? “Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me. Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.” — Psalm 38:21–22 (KJV) “Do Not Forsake Me” draws its biblical inspiration from the heartfelt prayers of those who cried out to the Lord in suffering, weakness, repentance, and desperate need. Throughout Scripture, God's people pleaded with Him not to abandon them. These were not always prayers spoken from positions of strength. Often, they came from broken hearts, troubled consciences, and lives surrounded by hardship. Yet their hope remained in the Lord. SCRIPTURE FOUNDATION Psalm 38:21–22 — David pleads with the Lord not to forsake him and asks God to come quickly to his help. Psalm 71:9, 18 — The psalmist asks God not to cast him off in old age or forsake him when his strength fails. Psalm 27:9–10 — David asks the Lord not to forsake him and expresses confidence that God will receive him even if his father and mother abandon him. Deuteronomy 31:6 — Moses encourages Israel to be strong and courageous because the Lord will not fail or forsake His people. Hebrews 13:5–6 — Believers are reminded of God's promise never to leave or forsake them and encouraged to trust Him as their helper. Matthew 28:20 — The risen Jesus promises His disciples that He will be with them always, even to the end of the age. THE MESSAGE There are seasons when the burdens of life seem greater than our ability to carry them. Sin may leave us grieving over choices we cannot undo. Suffering may test our endurance. Loneliness may make us question whether anyone understands. Fear may cause us to lose sight of God's faithfulness. But Scripture teaches us to bring these struggles honestly before the Lord. The prayer “Do not forsake me” is a confession of our complete dependence upon God. We need His mercy when we have sinned. We need His strength when we are weak. We need His wisdom when we are confused. We need His presence when we are afraid. And we need His grace every day, not merely when circumstances become difficult. For those walking through addiction recovery, grief, hardship, spiritual discouragement, or a season of repentance, this prayer carries a deeply personal message. We cannot overcome sin or faithfully follow Jesus Christ through human determination alone. We must turn to Him, trust His promises, obey His Word, and depend upon the Holy Spirit. God's faithfulness does not mean that every hardship will disappear. It means that those who belong to Christ can trust Him even in the midst of suffering. May this song encourage you to call upon the Lord, remember His promises, and draw near to Jesus Christ with a humble and trusting heart.
