EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Whalers Game 62 | Whalers Finish Home-and-Away Series vs PIT

The Whalers were up against the Penguins in Game 62 this time in Pittsburgh again after a very close win in Hartford in Game 61. Like the last game the Penguins started fast. Five minutes into the game Ulf Samuelsson got his own rebound and put it in past Sean Burke after going all the way down from his own zone through the Hartford team off a pass from Tom Barrasso. Less than four minutes later Mario Lemieux beat Sean Burke tight to the post glove-side from right in front off a pass from the outside bottom corner of the circle by Jaromir Jagr to make it the comfort zone for Pittsburgh at 2-0. The Whalers steadied their ship after that and held off the Powerhouse until the horn. At the 1st intermission the Penguins had a 2-0 lead with the shots at HTF 14 and PIT 10. Hartford widened the shot gap a little bit in the 2nd period and managed to cut the Penguins' lead by half when Geoff Sanderson beat Tom Barrasso top-blocker-side on the backhand off some great work by Andrew Cassels in the corner before the pass while Hartford was short-handed with about nine minutes to go. Less than three minutes later the Penguins got that back. Luc Robitaille beat Sean Burke tight to the post blocker-side after a nice pass from Mario Lemieux to send him in on the breakaway. Fourteen seconds after that Hartford made it a 1-goal game again when Geoff Sanderson scored on the glove-side of Tom Barrasso from well out on his wing off a pass from Andrew Cassels between the hashes. The 2nd intermission had the Penguins up by one at 3-2 and the shots at HTF 32 and PIT 20. The chances were quite even in the 3rd period but Hartford's goalie, Sean Burke, was very solid and backstopped the team through a comeback. About five minutes into the 3rd period Geoff Sanderson finished off his hat-trick and completed the come-from-behind tie when he went top-glove from right in front off some great work doing the dispy-doodle keep-away by Adan Burt in the Pittsburgh zone. Both teams had good chances throughout the 3rd period but the goalies were tough to beat. Finally, with three-and-a-half minutes left, Geoff Sanders made it four goals on the night beating Tom Barrasso top-glove from the corner of the circle off a nice pass by Andrew Cassels after he circled the net to give Hartford their first lead of the game. Sean Burke had the secondary assist. The Whalers hung on to take the game 4-3 in one of their toughest wins this season. Enjoy!
