EA Sports NHL '96 All-star Season 1 Whalers Game 55 | The Whalers Head to Winnipeg

Hartford was in Western Canada but moving east a bit to Winnipeg for Game 55. This is the second meeting of these teams this season. They met in Game 11 in Hartford where the Whalers won a close shut-out at 2-0. The Jets were hoping for a bit of payback in their own rink. The 1st period was even as far as chances but the Whalers took the lead with the only goal of the period. Geoff Sanderson had the way to the net cleared by the Winnipeg defense and beat Nikolai Khabibulin top-glove on the backhand from between the hashes off a pass from Darren Turcotte while Hartford was short-handed. Sean Burke aided with the secondary assist. At the 1st intermission the shots were HTF 10 and WPG 10. Hartford widened the shot gap in the 2nd period but both goalies were solid and the score stayed at 1-0. At the 2nd intermission the shots were HTF 31 and WP 19. The 3rd period was the same stalemate as the 2nd so Winnipeg pulled their goalie in the last minute to try and tie the game for over-time. Adam Burt scored into the empty net for the second game in a row after taking the puck right in front of his own net and taking it all the way down to the unguarded Winnipeg cage through the Jets defense. The game ended with the same result as Game 11, a 2-0 shut-out win for the Whalers. Sean Burke had a 31-save shut-out for his eighteenth shut-out of the season. Enjoy!
