📘 FREE STUDY GUIDE Furigana, vocabulary, useful expressions & mini quiz: https://ko-fi.com/s/30dfd5579d Your friend cooks you a delicious meal, and you say 「さすが、美味しいね」. What feeling does さすが show? さすが (sasuga) means "just as I expected — you really are good." But Japanese people also use it as irony, and さすがに means something different: "that's just too much." In this episode, Maho talks about how Japanese people really use さすが. 今日は、日本人がよく使う「さすが」について、やさしい日本語で話します。 In this episode, you'll learn: ✅ The basic image of さすが: 「やっぱりすごい」「思っていた通り」 ✅ すごい vs さすが: what's the difference? ✅ 「さすがですね」: praising someone (and being careful with people senior to you) ✅ 「さすがプロ」: you value someone's skill and experience ✅ Ironic さすが: 「さすがだね、今日も遅刻したんだ」 ✅ さすがに: 「今日はさすがに疲れた」「さすがに無理」「これはさすがに高すぎる」 ✅ さすが in English: just as I expected, no wonder you are a pro, that's just too much ✅ Mini quiz + Maho's Note 📝 Japanese subtitles with furigana are on screen, so you can read along while you listen. Japanese closed captions (CC) are also available. ⏱ Chapters 0:00 Intro: 「さすが、美味しいね」 — what feeling is this? 1:13 The basic image of さすが 2:11 すごい vs さすが 3:16 「さすがですね」 4:13 「さすがプロ」 5:01 さすが as irony 6:14 「さすがに」: 今日はさすがに疲れた 7:08 「さすがに無理」 8:04 The feeling of さすがに: 寒い vs さすがに寒い 9:28 さすが in English 10:25 Free study guide 10:55 Mini quiz 11:53 Maho's Note 13:00 Have you thought 「さすが」 recently? 13:23 Summary & Ending 💬 皆さんは、最近「さすが」と思ったことはありますか。それとも、「さすがに無理」と思ったことがありますか。よかったら、コメントで教えてください。 Have you recently thought 「さすが!」 — or 「さすがに無理…」?
