An obstacle detection level crossing located next to Lakenheath Station - officially Suffolk's least-used station as of the 2019-20 statistics. This station has no typical weekday service (only a few trains stop here on weekends - most of which only stop here on Sundays as to serve the nearby nature reserve), and this station is located around two miles from the village where it gets its name along a very busy road with hardly any footway or safe space to walk along. The level crossing here has two quiet alarms, one of which produces a slightly faulty low-pitched tone, as well as four short barriers which raise unusually quickly. The barrier arms here appeared new at the time of filming, and there were some old barrier arms laying on a narrow verge near the level crossing when I visited, and one of the current barrier arms is fitted the incorrect way around. An abandoned signal box which once controlled the previous level crossing set-up's manual gates at this location is located next to this level crossing, and appears very decayed, with most of the level crossing equipment also seeming fairly dirty. The same can be said about the nearby station buildings - overall, there is a very desolate feel about and around this station.
Thanks for watching!
