A morning prayer for when you feel overwhelmed by every role you carry, with Psalm 61, lead me to the rock that is higher than I, the shepherd who gently leads, Jethro's counsel to Moses, and the everlasting arms. Is today asking you to be more people than one? Somebody's son or daughter, somebody's colleague, somebody's ride, and all before the morning is properly underway. Here we open scripture to a king whose heart was overwhelmed, a shepherd who slows the whole flock for the mothers, a verse that says God carries the load daily, a leader told he could not do it alone, and the same man forty years later, blessing his people with what had been holding him all along. SCRIPTURES IN THIS PRAYER Psalm 61:1, 2 "Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Isaiah 40:11 "He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." Psalm 68:19 "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah." Psalm 61:6 "Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations." Exodus 18:13 "And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening." Exodus 18:17, 18 "And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good. Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone." Exodus 18:23 "If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace." Deuteronomy 33:27 "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms..." Genesis 26:12 (in the prayer) "Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him." Philippians 4:7 (the blessing) "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
