Are we running out of babies? I noticed something strange when my daughter went back to school: our local elementary school has seen such a dramatic decline in kindergarten enrollment that it can no longer maintain two classes. And apparently, this isn’t just happening at one school. The entire district is seeing fewer children. This got me thinking about the global birth rate collapse and why young people in wealthy, industrialized countries are having fewer children. In this vlog, I explore several possible reasons behind declining fertility and population decline, including environmental pollution, changing lifestyles, unrealistic expectations about raising children, economic pressures, and the anxiety created by living in an information-saturated world. I also tackle a controversial question: has the expansion of lifestyle choices for women contributed to declining birth rates? And if individual freedom and demographic stability come into conflict, how should society reconcile the two? Finally, I share why, despite all of these challenges, I believe having children can bring incredible joy, personal growth, purpose, and hope for the future. Why are people having fewer kids?
