As a ranger in the Appalachian wilderness, I’ve learned that some rules are there for your safety. Others exist because someone already discovered what happens when you break them.
There’s one rule I was never supposed to question:
If you hear two whistles from the forest, do not whistle back.
At first, I thought it was just an old ranger superstition. Then people started disappearing from trails where no one should have been able to vanish. Every case had something strange in common. Two whistles.
Always two.
In this chilling wilderness horror story, I’ll tell you what happened the night I heard those whistles coming from somewhere deep beyond my patrol route. What I found in the woods made me realize the rules weren’t meant to protect hikers from the wilderness.
They were meant to protect the wilderness from us.
So if you hear a whistle while watching this story, listen carefully.
And whatever you do… don’t answer it.
