The Wager - Edinburgh Shanty Co.

Inspired by the book of the same name by David Grann, The Wager is the story of a mutiny in 1741 and all the madness surrounding it. We all read the book and loved it, so Rob wrote a shanty to go with it. You'll notice that there are progressively fewer survivors as the verses go on... (If you want to read the lyrics in all their epic glory, you can find all our lyrics at edinburghshantynight.com) A note on the video: for various reasons, following the format of our previous Pianodrome videos wasn't possible, so instead of a video showing the performance of the song, it's overlayed with general footage from the day. With nothing but audacious dreams in tow, we decided we could put the call out and get people to give up their entire Sunday to help us record our original songs - and that's exactly what happened! It's a memory we'll treasure forever, and despite the fact that it was quite tough towards the end, we couldn't be happier with the results. And maybe, just maybe, this could be an annual tradition...?
