*RWANDA’S DIPLOMATIC MOMENT IN NEW YORK: MAJOR AGREEMENTS AND NEW PARTNERSHIPS AT UNGA81* Rwanda has used the opening of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to strengthen diplomatic relations, expand international cooperation and create new opportunities for trade, investment and connectivity. Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, representing President Paul Kagame at UNGA81, held bilateral discussions with the Prime Ministers of Iraq and The Bahamas. According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the meetings focused on strengthening relations and exploring areas of cooperation that could benefit Rwanda and the two countries. Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe also led several diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the General Assembly. Rwanda and Cyprus signed an Air Services Agreement intended to improve air connectivity and support deeper cooperation between the two countries. The agreement creates a formal framework for aviation relations, although it does not automatically mean that direct flights will begin immediately. Rwanda and Togo signed three agreements covering political consultations, the establishment of a Joint Commission for Cooperation and a broader framework for bilateral cooperation. Minister Nduhungirehe also held talks with his counterparts from Tanzania and Denmark about strengthening relations and advancing shared interests. One of the most significant developments was the restoration of diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Belgium. The two countries agreed to reopen their embassies and rebuild official communication through dialogue, mutual respect and structured diplomatic engagement, while acknowledging that disagreements may remain on certain international and regional issues.
