Leadership and management development depends on coordinated contributions from a range of stakeholders, rather than the efforts of one person or department. This lesson explains how sponsors and senior leaders provide strategic backing, shape organisational culture and encourage psychological safety. It then examines the practical role of line managers in transferring learning into everyday work through coaching, feedback, SMART goals and opportunities to practise new skills. Participants are expected to engage actively, reflect on their behaviour, apply learning and respond to feedback. The wider organisation also contributes by creating cross-functional opportunities and aligning development with operational priorities. External providers can add specialist expertise, fresh perspectives, benchmarking and evaluation of learning impact. Finally, people professionals connect the different groups by clarifying roles, coordinating activity and strengthening relationships. The central message is that leadership development has the greatest impact when accountability is shared, learning is connected to business needs and new behaviours are reinforced in practice.
