Planning a trip to Spain or moving to Valencia as an expat? Then there is one architectural masterpiece you absolutely cannot skip: the magnificent Mercado de Colón.
Welcome back to the channel! My name is Eppie. I’m an American musician who has been living, busking, and surviving out here in the beautiful Valencia region since 2011. Today, we are heading into the upscale L'Eixample neighborhood (specifically the swanky Pla del Remei district) to explore the crown jewel of Valencian Art Nouveau architecture.
Designed by Francisco Mora Berenguer in the early 1900s and heavily inspired by Antoni Gaudí’s legendary style, this stunning building was originally a traditional neighborhood market. Today, it has been given a multi-million-euro face-lift and transformed into a world-class culinary hotspot packed with gourmet tapas bars, artisan cafes, chic flower shops, and local craft beer spots.
🔥 EXPAT INSIDER BONUS TIP:
If you are walking around the shopping district, enjoying a few drinks, and desperately need a public restroom—do not panic! Most European city centers require you to buy a coffee just to get a bathroom door code. But if you are near the Colón market, just head down to the lower level. Tucked away downstairs is a remarkably clean, modern restroom that is 100% FREE for the public to use. This little basement secret is worth its weight in gold!
Whether you are looking for the best neighborhoods to live in Valencia, hunting down local food festivals, or just need an emergency pit stop, the Mercado de Colón has you covered.
