Happy Navratri! Navratri ("nine nights") is one of India's biggest festivals, celebrated by millions of families in India, the USA, the UK, Canada and all over the world. Each night honours one of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Why do we celebrate? Long ago the demon Mahishasura troubled the whole world, and Maa Durga fought him for nine days and nights and won on the tenth day (Dussehra / Vijayadashami): the victory of good over evil. On Day 3 we meet Maa Chandraghanta, the brave goddess with the bell-shaped moon. It's Day 3 of Navratri! Veer has to fetch the dandiya sticks from the creaky storeroom before garba night. Instead he comes up with excuse after silly excuse, from fasting legs to being a mountain! Count them with us. Dadi tells the story of Maa Chandraghanta, the goddess with the bell-shaped moon, who stayed fearless and calm at her surprising wedding. Kids learn what Chandraghanta means and why we ring the puja bell, and they find out what bhog and jau are. They also find out what was really growling in the storeroom. Being brave means trying even when you're scared, and you can always hold a hand. Watch the whole Navratri series with Riya & Veer: a new episode for every day of Navratri (11-19 October 2026), each with the story of that day's goddess. Perfect for kids aged 3-8 learning about Indian festivals, Hindu culture, garba, dandiya and Durga Puja traditions. Jai Mata Di!
