Pip's Sound Gate only opens for the right sound. An umbrella, a van, a watermelon, a yo-yo and a zebra ride the belt - and a box that has to wait. WHAT THIS TEACHES The sounds of the last six letters: U (uh), V (vuh), W (wuh), X (ks), Y (yuh) and Z (zuh). The gate listens to the FRONT of each word, and a line under the word shows where it is listening. Then comes X, the tricky one: X hardly ever starts a word, it hides at the END - box, fox, six. So for X the line moves to the end of the word, and the box that was turned away at the start finally gets through. Every round asks your child first: does it start with the sound? Will the gate open or stay shut? There is a real pause to answer out loud. BEST FOR Preschool and pre-K: 4 and 5 year olds learning letter sounds (phonics), and 3 year olds who already know some letters. CHAPTERS 0:00 U says uh 0:22 U - umbrella 2:46 V - van 4:17 W - watermelon 6:46 X - the letter that hides at the end 8:48 Y - yo-yo 10:20 Z - zebra 11:51 All six sounds Try it at home: say a word slowly and ask "what sound is at the front?" Then try box, fox and six, and listen to the end. No songs, no fast cuts, no loud noises - a calm lesson on a light background, the way a picture book looks.
