Why this music sounds so ridiculous

Prokofiev’s Visions fugitives (Fleeting visions) are a set of character pieces with a title that alludes to the improvisatory and ephemeral nature of their conception. As a result, each movement is relatively short and each character seems to be born out of a poetic image or idea that gives plentiful variations over 20 movements. No.10, entitled Ridicolosamente, evokes a personage of the absurd that's humourous and even clumsy. The sharp contrasts, playful articulations and unexpected harmonic shifts all create a sense of unpredictability and a "tongue-in-cheek" atmosphere. A rather modest piano writing without any bursts of virtuosity so signature to Prokofiev might also lend itself to an orchestration with a small wind ensemble. 2 clarinets could play the opening staccato accompaniment while the melody seems perfect for an oboe.
