Young Mom Was Shot in the Head — Her Boyfriend Claimed It Was an Accident

A 25-year-old mother went to a home on Hartfield Lane in Beaumont, Texas. Hours later, she was fighting for her life after being shot in the head. When police arrived, her boyfriend, Brandon Cretenne, reportedly told investigators that he and Tammy Reena Dawson had struggled over a handgun and that the weapon discharged accidentally. But investigators said the physical evidence at the scene did not match that explanation. Tammy was found unconscious inside a bedroom closet with a severe gunshot wound. The handgun was reportedly found on a bedside table. She was transported to a Southeast Texas hospital, where she remained in critical condition. On June 8, 2026, Tammy was removed from life support and died. What followed was a major change in the case. Cretenne was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury. After Tammy's death, prosecutors presented the case to a grand jury, which returned a murder indictment. Tammy was a daycare worker and a mother to a four-year-old son. Friends remembered her as loving, selfless, and someone who devoted herself to caring for others. This video follows the known timeline—from the 911 call and the initial explanation given to police, through the investigation, Tammy's death, and the subsequent murder indictment. ⚠️ *IMPORTANT:* This case is currently pending trial. The allegations discussed in this video are based on law enforcement statements, reported court documents, and the probable cause affidavit. Brandon Cretenne has not been convicted and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
