Henry Ford helped put the world on wheels. But what happened when the world started moving beyond the car—and the rules—he had built?
In 1927, the Model T reached fifteen million cars. Replacing it meant rebuilding the system that had made it affordable. For Ford, the problem went beyond engineering: how could a man celebrated for refusing to give up recognize when it was time to change?
This documentary follows Ford from his early experiments and failed automobile businesses to the Model T, the moving assembly line, and the five-dollar day. It examines the people behind that system, including Clara Ford, James Couzens, and Edsel Ford—and the limits of a company organized around its founder's authority.
The story continues through the Rouge complex, the rubber plantations in Brazil, the Model A, the antisemitic campaign in The Dearborn Independent, the Battle of the Overpass, the first Ford–UAW agreement, and wartime production at Willow Run.
The Martin Archives tells the stories of the people behind history: their ambitions, their decisions, and the consequences that outlasted them.
