Looking back on my school years, I now recognize specific patterns that I did not understand at the time. Whether it was the need to rigidly control my day only to fall apart at home, specific food preferences, or a strict insistence on playing games my way, these were all early indicators. Seeing these same neurodivergent traits in my own children thirty years later has been a major realization. I am sharing these experiences to help others connect the dots in their own histories. Understanding autism in children through a personal lens can provide clarity on why we struggled with certain expectations. It is not about pathologizing the past, but rather finding a framework to understand our AuDHD experiences and how they shaped who we are today.
