On a part with more than one bend, the second bend is the one that comes out wrong far more often than the first. It is usually not the operator, and it is not the backgauge drifting.
The first bend is gauged off a clean cut edge. Every bend after that is gauged off something you already bent.

Covered in this episode:
• What the backgauge actually measures
• The second bend: gauging off a bent flange
• Tolerance stack-up across a chain of bends
• The flat pattern: air bent radius vs the CAD radius
• Inside vs outside dimensions
• Bend angles that wander from batch to batch
• Tapered flanges: micro joints, burrs and square edges
• Holes that stretch next to the bend
• Short flanges that slip into the die
• Check the decisions, not the machine
