What’s the truth about Walmart’s $110,000 trucking jobs? In April 2022, Walmart announced that new drivers in its private fleet could earn up to $110,000 in their first year, nearly twice the average long-haul salary it cited at the time. Now a viral video claims American truckers are refusing these jobs. So I test five popular beliefs about Walmart’s driving jobs against the record: the pay, who can actually get hired, the hiring numbers, Walmart’s driver pay history, and whether a bigger salary always means a better job.
In this video:
What Walmart actually announced in April 2022: a first-year range of $95,000 to $110,000, not $110,000 for everyone
The real weekly gap between the bottom and top of that range
Why Walmart’s private fleet is selective, and the internal program that trains warehouse workers to become drivers
The Private Fleet Development Program: 12 weeks, CDL costs covered, and its first graduates
Why the “truckers are refusing” claim doesn’t match Walmart’s hiring of thousands of drivers a year
Ridgeway v. Walmart: the $54.6 million California driver pay verdict, both sides of it, and why it matters for how pay is calculated
An illustrative hourly comparison: Walmart vs. the BLS median vs. a strong local job

Recruiting guides on Walmart private fleet experience requirements
Hiring requirements described in this video come from recruiting guides and can change. Confirm current requirements and pay directly with Walmart. The hourly comparisons are my own illustrative calculations using assumed hours, not Walmart’s actual schedules or pay data. Pay ranges are from Walmart’s 2022 announcement; I found no newer public update.
