Though written by a Muslim poet and frequently performed by Pakistani Qawwali maestros like Ustad Farid Ayaz and Abu Muhammad, this beautiful piece seamlessly blends Islamic Sufism with Hindu Bhakti traditions. The Theme The central theme is syncretic divine love (Ishq-e-Haqiqi) and longing in separation (Viraha). It is written in the style of a Meera-esque Hindu bhajan, adopting the voice of a female devotee or bride pleading with Lord Krishna (Kanhaiya). It represents a loving, sorrowful complaint directed at the Divine for seemingly forgetting about the human soul left behind on Earth. The Meaning & Philosophical Depth On the surface, the lyrics follow a woman who has tried everything—consulting priests, praying to Lord Shiva (Mahadev), and resorting to local superstitions—just to get news of her distant lover, Kanhaiya. However, beneath the romantic folklore lies a profound spiritual protest: The Pain of the Material World: In the verse "Khaak paro logon is byaahne par, achchhi main rehti kanvaari" (Cursed be this marriage, I was better off unmarried), the word "unmarried" symbolizes the soul's original, pure state in heaven where it was connected to the Creator. "Marriage" represents being forced into the physical, material world. The Cosmic Descent: The poem laments the transition from One to many. The poet argues that the soul was completely at peace when it was a single entity with God. By being sent to Earth (the "marriage"), the soul is now trapped in the pain of duality and separation. Ultimately, the song means that humanity's deep-rooted worldly suffering is actually a subconscious homesickness, a cry of the soul begging to return to its divine source. About the Seekers Sangat festival: As we stepped into 2026, we curated an intimate celebration of music, mindfulness, and meaningful connection - Seekers Sangat: A Mindfulness Festival. The festival (retreat) was held from 2nd to 4th January 2026 at the serene Bulbul Farm Retreat, Palpa, Nepal. This gathering brought together seekers, artists, and facilitators for an immersive experience in nature, silence, and soulful music. Through workshops on yoga, meditation, breathwork, art therapy, and heartfelt conversations, participants celebrated the new year consciously - away from noise and towards inner harmony. We were deeply honoured to have Mir Razak Ali (folk & sufi singer from Pugal, Bikaner, Rajasthan) as one of our featured musical artists, sharing his music and presence with our loving community. His art beautifully reflected the spirit of Seekers Sangat - one that inspires inner stillness, devotion, and joy through sound.
