The myth claims that water filled with enough air bubbles loses so much density that a swimmer's natural buoyancy fails completely, causing them to sink without warning, and Adam and Jamie decided to test it properly, starting with a small hydrometer device in a fish tank, scaling up to a 10,000-gallon tank with Adam in a wetsuit and weights to keep himself neutrally buoyant, discovering that upward water currents were interfering with the results, and then building a large custom bubbler for the bottom of a full swimming pool to eliminate those variables entirely, with Adam attempting to swim across and back through the bubbles at increasing power levels to find out exactly where staying afloat becomes genuinely impossible.
