Parenting an autistic child can place enormous pressure on a relationship, particularly when you have different ideas about what your child needs, different parenting approaches, unequal levels of involvement or simply two exhausted people trying to manage a lot at once. And sometimes the argument on the surface isn't really what the conflict is about. In this lesson, Jackie explores what can sit underneath relationship conflict while parenting — including stress, resentment, different beliefs and expectations, feeling unheard or unsupported, and the meaning each person may be attaching to what the other is doing. You'll look at how two people can experience the same situation very differently, how misunderstandings can develop into an “I'll hurt you because you've hurt me” cycle, and how parenting roles and relationship patterns can gradually develop over time — particularly when families are also navigating an autism diagnosis. Jackie also explores some of the different ways partners may experience relationships, communication and problems, and how those differences can lead to misunderstandings. The aim is to move away from who is right and who is wrong and towards understanding what may actually be happening for each person — so you can communicate, negotiate and work together with greater understanding. ▶ START THE COMPLETE FREE AUTISM PARENTING PROGRAM    • Autism Parenting Program | Free 9-Week Pro...   ▶ WATCH THE NEXT LESSON    • Getting on the Same Page as Parents: The M...   🔔 SUBSCRIBE TO THE PARENTAL STRESS CENTRE If this program is helping you, subscribe to the channel. The Parental Stress Centre starts somewhere different. We help you understand why things are happening first. Because when behaviour makes sense, better decisions naturally follow. This free 9-week program is designed to help parents and carers better understand themselves, their autistic child and what's happening beneath behaviour. Throughout the program, you'll explore parental stress and self-awareness, the autistic brain, PDA, meltdowns and shutdowns, emotional regulation, skill development, school avoidance, relationships, communication, family dynamics and more. The aim isn't to change who your child is. It's to help you understand them, support them and make more informed decisions about what they may need. 🌐 THE PARENTAL STRESS CENTRE https://parentalstresscentre.com For more than 20 years, The Parental Stress Centre has provided practical parenting education and support to families.
