When you and your partner have different ideas about parenting, it can be easy to get stuck arguing about whose approach is right rather than understanding why you each see the situation differently and what you're both ultimately trying to achieve.
In this lesson, Jackie applies the Mind TRACK to Happiness process to helping parents get on the same page. You'll work through five steps — Thoughts, Reality, Aim, Choices and Know your plan and action it — to understand the beliefs sitting underneath your different parenting approaches, clarify what you both want for your child and relationship, and begin bridging the gap between your viewpoints.
You'll also explore how to discuss a disagreement without immediately becoming defensive, listen to each other's perspectives before jumping to solutions, brainstorm options, negotiate or compromise and create a practical agreement you can test and adjust over time.
Because getting on the same page doesn't necessarily mean thinking exactly the same way. It's about understanding where each of you is coming from and finding a way forward that you can both work with.

ABOUT THE AUTISM PARENTING PROGRAM
Most parenting advice starts with what to do.
The Parental Stress Centre starts somewhere different.
We help you understand why things are happening first. Because when behaviour makes sense, better decisions naturally follow.
This free 9-week program is designed to help parents and carers better understand themselves, their autistic child and what's happening beneath behaviour.
Throughout the program, you'll explore parental stress and self-awareness, the autistic brain, PDA, meltdowns and shutdowns, emotional regulation, skill development, school avoidance, relationships, communication, family dynamics and more.
The aim isn't to change who your child is. It's to help you understand them, support them and make more informed decisions about what they may need.
