Verse 1
O Lord, rebuke me not in wrath,
Nor in Thy hot displeasure chasten me;
Thine arrows pierce my inmost path,
Thy hand upon my soul I see.
No soundness in my flesh remains,
Because of Thine afflicting rod;
My bones cry out in weary pains,
My spirit groans to Thee, my God.
Chorus
Lord, hear my cry, my penitent prayer,
My sorrows rise, my foes draw near;
Forsake me not, O God of grace,
My strength, my hope, my hiding place.
Verse 2
My guilt is like a heavy sea,
A flood too great for me to bear;
My foolish sins have wounded me,
And filled my soul with deep despair.
My heart is faint, my strength is spent,
The light of joy from me has fled;
My friends stand far, my foes relent,
And seek to strike me down with dread.
Chorus
Lord, hear my cry, my penitent prayer,
My sorrows rise, my foes draw near;
Forsake me not, O God of grace,
My strength, my hope, my hiding place.
Verse 3
But I am like a man who hears,
Whose mouth is closed in silent woe;
I trust Thee, Lord, amidst my fears,
To Thee my supplications flow.
For in Thy mercy I confide,
My steps are set before Thine eyes;
O Lord, my God, to Thee I cried,
Let not my soul be made their prize.
Chorus
Lord, hear my cry, my penitent prayer,
My sorrows rise, my foes draw near;
Forsake me not, O God of grace,
My strength, my hope, my hiding place.
Verse 4
Make haste to help me, Lord, I plead,
Thou art my Savior and my King;
From ev'ry sin and evil deed,
O Lord, Thy full redemption bring.
Though I am prone to fall and stray,
My soul waits still for Thy release;
Let not the wicked have their way,
But speak my pardon and my peace.
Final Chorus
Lord, hear my cry, my penitent prayer,
My sorrows rise, my foes draw near;
Forsake me not, O God of grace,
My strength, my hope, my hiding place.
Amen.
Closing Doxology
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
