#jimbairdadventurer #yukon #outdoors 11 Days Solo Camping in the Yukon Wilderness - E.9 - Quest for Floatplane Pick-Up, Strainers & Rapids: The last stretch of the Yukon's Bonnet Plume River is over 2km wide and consists of a tangled mess of braids where the water is moving very quickly, ripping around ever-changing islands where small channels see trees fallen into the river on either side. I had to make quick decisions to stay in the main channel as best I could and it felt like I was in a constant rapid for hours. I waved the Bonnet Plume goodby as I finally reached the Peel but then I had some nasty headwinds to deal with as I made my way through a beautiful canyon. Beat, I finally made camp after paddling 95kms and ate a tin of smoked mussels for dinner. I needed to reach my float plane pick up location the next day. The Yukon is a place where dreams are made and where adventurers have been going to follow their dreams since the Klondike gold rush in the 1880s. As much as anyone, I went there to follow my dreams and they became a reality…..but, like the Robert Service poem the Spell of the Yukon says: I wanted to go back, and I did.
