Columbia River - Washington State

The towering cliffs and narrow coulees along the Columbia River in central Washington State were formed by many cycles of massive volcanic lava flows and glaciation followed by catastrophic flooding. Sand dunes are common among the basalt rock cliffs and depressions where desert animals make their homes.
