Get my free Ultimate JKD Kickboxing Starter Kit here: https://austinimpactjkd.com/ultimate-... Heavy bag workouts are usually done solo, but adding a partner can turn your bag work into a great way to train your defense and reactions. In this final part of my shin blocking series, I'll show you a simple heavy bag partner drill for practicing shin blocks, counters, and combinations. All your partner needs is a pool noodle. While one person works combinations on the heavy bag, the partner uses the pool noodle to simulate incoming leg kicks. Your job is to recognize the attack, shin block it, and immediately get back to your offense. We'll progress from one strike before the block, to two strikes, to three strikes, while working on varying your combinations so you don't fall into predictable patterns. This is a fun way to add an element that's usually missing from heavy bag training: something actually attacking you back. I also answer a student's question about using the opposite leg to shin block. We'll look at how your stance, weight distribution, and positioning can determine whether you block with the lead or rear leg. This is Part 3 of my shin blocking series. If you haven't watched the first two videos, go back and learn the follow-up combinations and how to use the shin block to defend a leg kick and counter. Grab a partner, a heavy bag, and a pool noodle and give this drill a try. If you're in Austin, Texas and want to train with me in person, I also offer private Jeet Kune Do lessons focused on practical striking, kickboxing, defense, and functional martial arts training. https://austinimpactjkd.com/
