5,000 Kids a Day, From One Restaurant. It Was All on Paper.

Five thousand children a day, seven days a week. That is what one Minneapolis restaurant told a federal program it was serving in the summer of 2020. A jury later found the claims were false. On October 28, 2026, Salim Said was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. Feeding Our Future, a Minnesota nonprofit, signed up more than 250 meal sites during COVID and received nearly $200 million in federal child nutrition money in 2021 alone. U.S. prosecutors say the scheme stole more than $240 million. This video walks through the case from U.S. Justice Department, FBI and state auditor records: the restaurant, the COVID rule changes, the fake rosters, the money, the warnings, the raid, the juror bribery attempt, the verdicts and the sentences.
