CAMINO DIARIES PART 3: THE MESETA | Walking 500 Miles Across Spain 🇪🇸
Welcome back to our Camino Francés adventure! After making our way through the Pyrenees and the beautiful vineyards of La Rioja, we've officially reached one of the most talked-about sections of the Camino de Santiago: The Meseta.
And y'all, this part of the journey was something special.
Known for its endless stretches of open farmland, small villages, scorching summer temperatures, and long, quiet days of walking, the Meseta is often considered the mental stage of the Camino. Some pilgrims dread it. Others skip it entirely. But for me? It became one of my absolute favorite parts of our 500-mile journey across Spain.
There's something incredibly powerful about walking for hours with nothing but the sound of your footsteps, wide-open landscapes, and your own thoughts. Life slows down. The distractions disappear. And you start to appreciate the simplest things: a shady spot to rest, a cold drink, a good meal, and the people you meet along the way.
But this section wasn't without its challenges!
From record-breaking heat and early morning starts to unexpected stomach troubles, exhaustion, and a few changes to our plans, the Meseta tested us in ways we didn't expect. We made our way through historic Spanish villages, met incredible people, celebrated reaching the halfway point of our Camino, and eventually arrived in the beautiful city of León, where we explored its breathtaking cathedral and enjoyed some much-needed rest.
As restaurant owners living in the remote West Texas desert, Andy and I are no strangers to hard work or hot weather. But walking across Spain taught us an entirely different kind of endurance.
The Meseta reminded me that sometimes the most meaningful parts of life aren't the most exciting or beautiful. Sometimes they're the quiet, ordinary moments when you simply keep putting one foot in front of the other.
In this episode, I'm taking you along for the highs, the lows, the laughter, the struggles, and everything in between as we continue our journey toward Santiago de Compostela.
Thank you for following along with our Camino Diaries series! Sharing this experience has been such a joy, and I hope it inspires you to get outside, chase a big dream, and maybe even plan a Camino adventure of your own.
