Teaching myself copperplate calligraphy — Session 5: the letter S

Copperplate calligraphy is my arch nemesis, and I've decided to learn it anyway — badly, slowly, and out loud. This isn't a tutorial channel. I'm not here to teach you calligraphy — I'm a beginner teaching myself, one letter at a time, and this is just me sharing that process: the practice, not polished results. If most of the calligraphy content you've seen is from people who've already mastered it, this is the other side — the smudges, the wobbly strokes, the slow figuring-it-out. This session, S surprised me — I expected to enjoy it more than I did. The uppercase has this rhythm to it, a kind of pressure and control you have to feel out with the pen rather than think through, and going slower than feels necessary is what actually helps. Lowercase was the harder one — I kept struggling to see the letter as an S in my own strokes, and out of the whole page only two came close to looking right, and even those aren't quite there yet. Good reminder that liking how a letter looks doesn't mean it's easy to get right. Calming background music runs through it as usual, so feel free to just put it on and let it run if that's more your speed. This channel started after a rough year, as a way to begin something again. More practice sessions coming as I work through more letters — not in alphabetical order, so don't be thrown by the jumps. If you're up for watching someone fail at something on purpose, stick around. 00:00 Intro 00:09 Practice 11:58 Reflection Music: 'I'll Miss You' by Abstract Aprils on #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/c/abstract-aprils License code: KU3JKX6HSTVUYNTM Music: 'Lightfall' by Abstract Aprils on #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/c/abstract-aprils License code: BUNRDMWOKMKKZ8R4 Music: 'Memory Loop' by Abstract Aprils on #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/c/abstract-aprils License code: I8UOXBWBRK7QXFXO #copperplatecalligraphy #calligraphypractice #beginnercalligraphy
