Three routes into an EV career: join an original equipment manufacturer or a tier one supplier, move into consulting, or build your own company. This roundtable covers all three, with one panelist from each.
The common thread is skills, not job titles. The V-cycle of product development survives the shift to electric. What changes is the work inside it.
On the table
Where the Indian jobs actually sit, and why the clusters formed in the west, north and south. Which established manufacturers and which new entrants are hiring.
Why an electric vehicle needs far fewer components than a petrol one, and what that does to engineering roles. Fewer parts means fewer layers, different design-for-manufacture work, and a changed brief for simulation engineers.
What consulting work actually looks like. Not slide decks in meeting rooms. Companies call when they lack the bandwidth, the local vendor base or the policy knowledge to move, and the problem statement arrives as technical, operational and commercial at once.
How to stay current when there is more material than anyone can read. Standards bodies, university reports and policy documents, plus the habit of turning one piece of industry news into a research question.
What a founder has to get right before anything else: selecting a technology, comparing options fairly, and reading the regulation and subsidy picture. Subsidies exist to create early momentum and they go away.
A closing question answered in detail: how an engineer with twenty years in conventional axle design moves into e-axle and electric powertrain work.
