Turn-Key Construction: Sterling Nelson on Barndominiums, AI, and Commercial Steel

In this episode of the Builders Bible podcast, Andrew Hathaway speaks with Sterlin Nelson, owner of VTX Builders in Southeast Texas. Sterling shares how he built a $1.1 million steel construction business over six years, offering complete turn-key solutions—including concrete, framing, and interior build-outs—for barndominiums and metal structures. He details the original tax and affordability motivations behind barndominium living, the shift in market demand toward commercial steel contractor bays, leveraging AI to refine QuickBooks invoicing and 3D building visualizers, and his long-term strategy of transitioning into building commercial real estate assets for himself.
