Sakya Friends’ ability to organize broadcasts and translations of Dharma teachings and empowerments in many languages, and to make them freely available online, depends entirely on voluntary donations from those who benefit from these teachings and their recordings.
The practice of this Tara belongs to the highest level of Vajrayana – Anuttara Yoga Tantra. An empowerment in the Sakya tradition can be received only in real time during the broadcast, not from a recording. The lung (reading transmission) of the sadhana, however, can be received from recordings published on YouTube.
About the 11th Tara:
The Red Tara "Remover of All Sorrows" is the 10th Tara from the 21 Taras of the Indian mahasiddha Suryagupta. Sanskrit name: Śoka-vinodana-Tārā. This Tara dispels misery, fear, and harmful influences. She protects from robbery, violence, and hostile conditions. She pacifies sickness and afflictions that arise from jealousy, desire, anger, and greed.
About Suryagupta’s lineage:
Tara is the female Buddha of enlightened action. Suryagupta was a lay practitioner from Kashmir who lived in the 8th century. He became one of the 84 Buddhist Mahasiddhas – those revered yogis who attained great realizations (siddhis) within their lifetime through Vajrayana sadhana practice. Tara herself bestowed upon Suryagupta her practices and praises. Tara has twenty-one primary emanations, each possessing different qualities and activities. Each Tara form compassionately aids sentient beings to overcome suffering, enjoy positive outer circumstances, and progress on the spiritual path toward enlightenment.
Receiving the empowerments of any of the Taras from the tradition of the 21 Taras of the Indian Mahasiddha Suryagupta, and engaging in their practice with proper bodhichitta motivation, good concentration, and while keeping all three sets of Buddhist vows, can bring great blessings from the transmission lineage and lead to ordinary and supreme attainments (Sanskrit: siddhis).
Ordinary (also called common) siddhis are those which bring benefits in this life. Supreme (or uncommon) siddhis are those which enable us to gain realization of the profound view and help us toward reaching full enlightenment.
Tara told Suryagupta that when practitioners pray to her and invoke her, she will fulfill their virtuous wishes and bestow upon them both common and supreme attainments. The Twenty-One Taras, as revealed directly to Suryagupta, appear in diverse forms with multiple arms, postures, and symbolic implements, each representing a specific aspect of her enlightened activity.
