“Dois Pedaços de Terra (Leve-Leve)” is a musical love letter to São Tomé and Príncipe: to its people, its island rhythms, and the everyday beauty that lives between the forest and the Atlantic.
Sung in Portuguese, the song takes us through green forest paths and colourful streets, past cacao drying in the roças, fishing canoes and lively markets. The roças bear traces of a complex plantation history; here, the focus rests on the people whose work and creativity continue to shape island life.
Tchiloli theatre and socopé dance bring the islands’ cultural heritage into view. Breadfruit warms over the embers, fish sizzles on the grill, and Príncipe reaches through the mist before moonlight settles over the shore.
At the heart of it all is leve-leve: an invitation to slow our steps, listen, and notice the lives unfolding around us. This film celebrates the dignity, skill, warmth and cultural richness of São Toméans, alongside the extraordinary landscapes they call home.
Music, arrangement and production: Gerrit Stassyns in collaboration with ACE Studio.

LYRICS in São Toméan Portuguese (português santomense).
Title: Dois Pedaços de Terra (Leve-Leve)
Intro: 00:20
Verso 1: 00:37
O sol vai nascendo no pico sagrado,
O verde da fôlêgô no mato fechado.
As águas da praia escorrem no chão,
A terra é d’obô, pura pulsação.
Roça e cacau, a herança da cor,
Brota do peito esse canto d’amor.
Refrão: 01:03
É a terra do leve-leve, no compasso do mar,
Onde a vida é m’oné, convida a ficar.
Intermezzo:01:31
Verso 2: 01:39
É a terra do leve-leve, no compasso do mar,
Onde a vida é m’oné, convida a ficar.
Intermezzo:02:32
Verso 3: 02:42
Ponte: 03:09
Príncipe estende os braços na neblina,
Santomé responde com força divina.
Língua crioula que corre na veia,
Luz do luar que a praia clareia.
Somos a ilha do centro do mundo,
Um sentimento puro e profundo.
Outro: 03:35
Leve-leve, meu irmão, caminha com fé...
A nossa terra é m’oné, a nossa terra é m’oné...
São Tomé e Príncipe, no meio do mar,
Para sempre vou te amar.
Leve-leve... assim é.
