EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Whalers Game 5 | Close Shave for Hartford vs Sabres in BUF

The Whalers were off to Buffalo for game 5 against the Sabres. Hartford started fast despite the travel and scored on their third shot of the game. Geoff Sanderson beat Dominik Hasek top-glove from just inside the hashes off a short pass from Andrew Cassels with just three minutes gone in the 1st period. Despite having a big shot advantage the Whalers couldn't solve Dominik Hasek again and the period ended 1-0 for the Whalers with the shots at HTF 20 and BUF 4. The 2nd period was a stalemate with Buffalo getting more chances but the Whalers still leading in shots at HTF 41 and BUF 12 at the end of the period. Buffalo tied the game very early in the 3rd period when Alexander Mogilny beat Sean Burke cleanly on the glove side on a long breakaway run only 35 seconds in. With fourteen minutes to go Hartford took advantage of the advantage on the powerplay to take the lead. Andrew Cassels put in his own rebound with Hasek still down during a bit of a melee in front of the Buffalo net. Buffalo tried to respond but only got nine shots in the 3rd period and Sean Burke stopped them all after the first shot that Mogilny scored on. The Whalers sailed away with a slim win 2-1. The final shot totals were HTF 61 and BUF 21. Enjoy!
